Motorcyclist who crashed into State Patrol squad car after pursuit dies from injuries

Officials are investigating after a motorcyclist who crashed into a Minnesota State Patrol squad car in Minneapolis last week died from his injuries.

State troopers were pursuing the motorcycle at around 4 p.m. on Friday, June 14, when its driver struck a stopped squad car at Cedar Avenue near 51st Street East in south Minneapolis.

The motorcyclist, a man in his mid-20s, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police announced on Friday that he had died.

According to Minneapolis Police Department, state troopers had been pursuing the motorcyclist on a highway but had ended the pursuit by the time the driver left the highway, with a State Patrol helicopter keeping “visual contact with it.”

MPD says its Traffic Division will lead the investigation into the crash, with the State Patrol leading the investigation into the pursuit.
