High-Speed Pursuit Ends in North Minneapolis with Standoff and Arrest

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA – The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has released more information on a police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle that culminated in a standoff and arrest in North Minneapolis on Tuesday evening. The incident began when detectives from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) identified an occupied stolen vehicle as part of Operation Safe Summer III.

According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, upon locating the vehicle in North Minneapolis, HCSO detectives, officers from the Minneapolis Police Department, and other agencies involved in the operation attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver, however, refused to comply, and due to the dangerous driving conditions, officers decided against a direct pursuit. Instead, a law enforcement helicopter was deployed to track the vehicle. For approximately 20 minutes, the helicopter followed the vehicle as it drove recklessly through the city. Officers attempted to slow the vehicle using tire deflation devices, but these efforts proved unsuccessful.
