MPD officer shoots and wounds heavily armed man on south side

Minneapolis police say it appears everyone is going to survive after one of their officers shot and wounded a heavily armed man this morning as he was firing at them.

Police chief Brian O’Hara calling it a “terrifying” incident at Minnehaha Avenue and East 40th street.

It started Friday night when police were receiving calls from that area of a man walking around with a shotgun.

Then at 4:30 Saturday morning, more calls from inside an apartment building about who they believe was the same man armed with several weapons.

According to the report, the man was firing the weapons, and that police responded the man was hit in the jaw.

The suspect is hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

“The officer who fired at the suspect is on administrative leave.
