Victim of Elliot Park fatal shooting identified by authorities

The victim of Wednesday night’s fatal shooting in the Elliot Park neighborhood has been identified by authorities.

Mario Sparkman, 46, of Minneapolis, was shot on the 1500 block of Portland Ave. S. shortly before midnight, with police arriving at the scene to find Sparkman on the sidewalk with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds.

“Preliminary information indicates that there may have been an argument before the shooting occurred,” MPD said. “A possible suspect left the scene on foot.”

Despite lifesaving efforts by both police and paramedics, he died at the scene. It marked the fifth homicide in Minneapolis in less than a week.

No arrests have been made as of Saturday morning.

Sparkman’s Facebook page listed him as a a manager at Interstate Parking Minneapolis/St. Paul. Friends and family have taken to Facebook to mourn his loss.
