Child arrested in connection with shooting threats to St. Paul schools

The child believed to be behind a threat to “shoot up” schools in St. Paul has been taken into custody, according to the Saint Paul Police Department.

St. Paul PD says the juvenile posted on their Instagram stories on Wednesday night about St. Paul schools they wanted to target. The post raised alarm throughout the city, causing two charter schools to close on Thursday, and multiple parents shared their anger on Facebook.

The department released an update on Facebook around 1 p.m. on Thursday, saying that the juvenile has been taken into custody after “admitted to posting the threats about Saint Paul schools and did not have the means or desire to carry out the threat.”

SPD reaffirms that there is no ongoing threat but added: “We don’t know if this is the only person sharing these disturbing messages.”
