Fried chicken venture opening restaurant on St. Paul’s East Side

A fried chicken venture that formerly operated inside a Minneapolis brewery is bringing its signature sandwiches and tenders to St. Paul.

Burnt Chicken owner Bernard Collins announced on Instagram he’s taking over the former East Side Bar space on Payne Avenue.

“I’m very happy,” he said.

The announcement is good news for Burnt Chicken fans who’ve been craving the popular Twin Cities Hot Chicken Sandwich since First Draft Tap Haus, where Burnt Chicken had a residency, closed its doors .

It’s also welcome news for the East Side’s Payne-Phalen neighborhood, which said goodbye to the East Side Bar in late 2022 .

An official opening date for Burnt Chicken hasn’t yet been announced, but Collins said to expect a soft opening sometime this fall.
