Bodycam footage shows St. Paul police fatally shooting suspect in artist’s killing

St. Paul Police Department has released bodycam footage showing the moment two of its officers fatally shot Seantrell Murdock, the suspect in the killing of artist Carrie Kwok in Lowertown last week.

Murdock died at Hennepin County Medical Center after he was shot by St. Paul PD officers Aaron Bohlen and Lance Christianson, 10- and 20-year veterans of the department respectively.

Police had tracked Murdock to a home on the 100 block of Meridian Street in Belle Plaine in the wake of the Wednesday evening killing of Kwok, 66, as she worked on a mural outside the Lowertown Lofts Artists Cooperative on Kellogg Street.

On Thursday morning around 6:30 a.m., Murdock left his home while armed with a handgun and was quickly approached by the officers.

The video shows officers getting out of their squad cars shouting “Hands! Hands!” One or more of the officers is then heard yelling, “He’s got a gun!” before four shots ring out.

The footage from Christianson’s bodycam sees him pulling up to the scene in an unmarked pickup and before he even gets out he can be heard saying, “Watch his hands, watch his hands.” Christianson gets out of the driver’s side and moments later opens fire at Murdock, who is alongside the vehicle around the side of the home.
