A man was killed Thursday afternoon when an apparent drug deal escalated to a shooting on Minneapolis’ North Side.
Minneapolis PD says the shooting was reported on the 4200 block of Penn Avenue North, with two people seen running from the scene.
One of those people was the victim, a man who was found in an alleyway between Penn and Queen Avenue North, who died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts by responders.
In an interview at the scene, MPD public information officer Garrett Parten said it’s believe the victim and shooter were known to each other, and that “drug activity” is involved in the shooting.
As of Friday morning, the other person involved has not been located and no arrests have been made.
Parten said that there has been a decline in gun violence in north Minneapolis recently. MPD Chief Brian O’Hara decried Thursday’s shooting as “tragic and unfortunate.”
“Gunfire in the middle of a neighborhood in the middle of the afternoon is frustrating and unacceptable,” he said. “This senseless violence is tragic and unfortunate, but I am confident our investigators will work hard to determine what happened and arrest those responsible.”
