New LGBT-friendly community center to open in Minneapolis this November

A new resource center for the Queer community is opening early November in Uptown Minneapolis.

Promoted as a resource center and social club for the LGBTQ+ community in the Twin Cities, Queermunity is planning to open on Nov 9. for pre-registered members, and will be open to the general public on Nov. 11 at 3036 Hennepin Ave.

The organization was founded in 2022 by Hilary Otey and Kayla Barth, and in 2023, partnered with Finnovation Lab to begin plans on creating the community center.

The center promises a variety of resources and events, including a resource navigator to help individuals find gender-affirming services ranging from haircuts to healthcare. A free pantry will be offered where people can find hygiene products, naloxone, safer sex supplies, and sharps containers.

Members can also relax in the center’s social club, where activities and parties will take place. There will also be affordable office spaces available to be rented out and a “Makers Market” that will offer a selection of products from local queer and BIPOC makers
