Two motorcyclists killed in separate Minnesota highway crashes

It was a deadly weekend for motorcyclists in Minnesota, with three killed in as many crashes on Friday and Saturday.

The first happened Friday night on Interstate 35W in Minneapolis, where a motorcycle rider collided with a Toyota Camry merging onto the highway near Washington Avenue South.

The victim was identified as 61-year-old Gordon Wayne Zieman of New Brighton.

The next fatal crash came around 12:29 a.m. Saturday morning in Winona County. A State Patrol incident reports says a 64-year-old Minnesota City woman on a Harley Davidson was attempting to merge from southbound Highway 61 onto eastbound I-90 when she left the roadway and crashed into the center median.

Later on Saturday just before 11 p.m. in Brooklyn Center, a 24-year-old Edina man on a Suzuki motorcycle traveling north on Highway 252 when he left the roadway and struck a bridge abutment, resulting in his death, the State Patrol says.

Neither of these latter two motorcyclists has been identified yet. It’s also not yet clear if they were wearing helmets, or whether alcohol was a factor in either of the crashes.
