Anoka County debuts new cold case page 4 years after man’s body found at park

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office debuted its new webpage dedicated to unsolved homicides on Thursday, coinciding with the anniversary of an still-unsolved killing.

The sheriff’s office launched the new page on its website last week, posting links to more than two dozen cold cases in the hope that people who might know something about these cases will come forward with information.

Thursday was also the four-year anniversary of 20-year-old Mort Siwe’s death. The St. Paul man, who was found dead in the Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area with severe head trauma, is one of the cold cases that is still being investigated.

“A dedicated team of law enforcement and forensic science professionals evaluate and prioritize all cold cases and evidence, and test, or retest evidence to further the investigation,” the sheriff’s office said.

“The ultimate goal is to hold offenders accountable and bring closure to victims’ families while providing support throughout the process.”

According to the Council of State Governments Justice Center , 57% of violent crimes reported to police in Minnesota were not solved in 2022, with Anoka County having 44% of violent cases going unsolved in 2022.
