Man who fired shots at 29th and Lyndale arrested near Willmar

Minneapolis Police were on the scene of a shooting at 29th and Lyndale Avenue South Tuesday afternoon. That initial “active shooter” situation turned into a manhunt that stretched into western Minnesota.

Residents in the south Minneapolis Lyn-Lake neighborhood described a tense scene where a man on the sixth floor of the Lime Apartment building apparently opened up his patio, fired off six to eight shots at someone down below on the street.

A white vehicle then drove away and the shooter went back inside the apartment. With police and SWAT teams are in the area patrolling the area with weapons out in anticipation of any other gunfire.

Minneapolis police officers located two victims at the scene who were shot at, but not struck. One was the shooter’s ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend. They shared a child who they were told was at a daycare. Law enforcement locked down the daycare and secured child who is safe.

Negotiators were on the phone with the suspect while he was fleeing the city.
