A Minneapolis man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for fatally shooting his neighbor, with whom he had been in a long-running dispute.
Walter Lee Hill, 59, was sentenced on Friday to 240 months for the fatal shooting of Donald Edmondson in his apartment last year. Hill pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree intentional murder on Oct. 21 and currently has 337 days of credit for time served.
“Mr. Edmondson should still be alive,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “A violent act committed with such disregard by Mr. Hill has taken him from his family.
“This sentence delivers accountability and protects our community, and I hope it brings some measure of peace to Mr. Edmondson’s loved ones as they attempt to move forward with their lives.”
According to the charges, the shooting occurred on Nov 24, 2023, just before 3 p.m. at Edmondson’s apartment at 2623 West Broadway Avenue in Minneapolis.
Officers received a call that indicated someone had been shot on the second floor a few minutes earlier. When they arrived on the scene and made their way to the second floor, they saw that the door to apartment 204 was open.
