Authorities ID two men killed in Minneapolis encampment shooting

Authorities have identified the two Twin Cities men killed in a triple shooting at a Minneapolis homeless encampment Sunday.

Christopher Martell Washington, 38, of Fridley, and Louis Mitchell Lemons Jr., 32, of Brooklyn Center, both died at the scene, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A woman was transported from the scene with life-threatening injuries.

The Minneapolis Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting, which happened at a small homeless encampment along the railroad tracks in the 4400 block of Snelling Avenue.

No arrests have been made as of Tuesday morning.

Speaking at a press conference , Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara and Mayor Jacob Frey spoke about the increase in homicides and shootings at encampments.

“To help end this cycle of violence that is exacerbated by narcotics and mental health issues, it is crucial that the residents of these encampments accept the resources that are available,” O’Hara said.

Another triple shooting at a small homeless encampment Saturday killed one man and injured two others.
