Johnny Mandujano, 40, has been charged in Hennepin County Court with one count of possessing ammunition/firearm with a prior conviction, one count of a firearm with no serial number, and one of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, on Oct. 13 around 2:30 a.m. a Champlin Police Officer was patrolling the area of West River Road near Highway 169.
“He observed a Dodge sports car appearing to rev its engine to entice other vehicles to race,” the complaint said. “The officer caught up to the Dodge, where he was able to use his radar to track the Dodge’s speed as 104 mph.”
The officer activated his emergency lights to get the vehicle to stop. According to the complaint, Dodge then accelerated to 140 mph to try and escape the officer.
“The officer later reacquired the vehicle near Magna Drive and 64th Avenue North, but again lost sight of it,” the complaint said. “Fifteen minutes later, a Maple Grove Police Department officer located the vehicle on Cypress Lane, just four blocks from where the officer last saw it. Officers converged on the area, where the Champlin officer was able to light up the driver with his spotlight. The officer recognized him as the registered owner of the vehicle, identified as Johnny Mandujano based off of a driver’s license photo.”
