The Minneapolis Police Department knowingly allowed a white man named John Sawchak to keep his freedom for nearly a week after he shot his neighbor Davis Moturi, a Black man, unprovoked. According to CNN reporting, Moturi was outside of his home pruning trees when Sawchak fired a round that entered through his neck and would go on to fracture his spine and break two of his ribs.

To add insult to potentially fatal injury, Moturi has filed 19 police reports about Sawchak’s threats, harassment, and hate speech including an incident where he called Moturi a “Black bastard”. B-b-b-but wait! It gets worse! Sawhcak had also been harassing his other neighbors for YEARS without facing consequences for his criminal behavior. MPD says that they allowed this soup cookie to remain in his home because of his history of mental illness, they believed he was a threat to himself and others.
