A winter weather advisory is in effect in the Twin Cities until 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon as rain turns to “heavy snow” during Halloween morning.
The National Weather Service has issued the advisory stretching from the Twin Cities metro up to Duluth, saying that colder air is moving into Minnesota that will turn the morning rain into heavy, slushy snow that at times could fall at rates of 1 inch per hour.
The NWS is advising that “Total accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are likely in a narrow band from just north of Mankato through most of the Twin Cities metro area, to northwest Wisconsin.”
There’s also the potential for higher totals in the event the heaviest snow bands remain stationary.
There is likely to be travel impacts for anyone driving at the time the snow is falling, which will be exacerbated of wind gusts of 15-20 mph or even 30-35 mph.
