Fast Eddie’s Pizza in Tangletown closed its doors this week.
The restaurant had to vacate its space at 4747 Nicollet Ave. S after the building’s new owner declined to renew the lease, per the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal .
The restaurant posted on social media in September that it was looking for a new home, but it wasn’t able to find a new space before it had to leave its long-time home at the end of October.
The building was recently purchased for $1.6 million by Omar Sabri of Eagle Management, according to the report. Sabri could not be reached for comment.
It left the pizza shop in a bind. Owner Michael Sloan told MSP Business Journal that he couldn’t afford to renovate a new space and moving into a new neighborhood unfamiliar with the restaurant would be too difficult after he had to do it once before. Fast Eddie’s had been in Longfellow prior to moving into the Nicollet Avenue location eight years ago.
The news was met with disappointment by neighborhood students. High schoolers from nearby Washburn High, who stop in regularly for pizza by the slice, started a petition to save the restaurant, Southwest Voices reports .
