The Target Corporation opened its first store in Roseville, Minnesota, in 1962. Since then, the company has grown to nearly 2,000 U.S. stores. In 2018, with the addition of a store in Vermont, Target achieved presence in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
In the near future, Target will bring its signature red shopping carts to two more Missouri locations. One of these new stores will be in University City, located on Olive Boulevard between I-170 and Woodson Road. At nearly 150,000 square feet, it will be the largest Target in the St. Louis area. Construction is already underway, with the grand opening expected in April of 2026
The other new store will be at the southeast intersection of West Sunshine Street (MO Route 413) and West Bypass (US Highway 160) in Springfield. It will be approximately 148,000 square feet. As of now, there’s no indication of grand opening dates.
Target is headquartered in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.
