Sloppy, fatigued play dooms Timberwolves in double-digit loss to Spurs

The Minnesota Timberwolves (3-3) dropped the back end of a back-to-back to the San Antonio Spurs (3-3) at Frost Bank Center, 113-103.

Both teams got off to a fast start on offense, each hitting 75% from the floor within the first four minutes of the game. However, the Wolves’ biggest lead all night was seven in the first quarter and the game started to get away from them in the second half.

The Spurs’ commentators noted on the broadcast that Minnesota didn’t arrive in San Antonio until just after 5:45 a.m. on Saturday after defeating the Denver Nuggets at Target Center Friday night, 119-116.

Minnesota struggled on defense throughout as the Spurs shot 55.3% from the field. Keldon Johnson led the Spurs in scoring with 25 points, shooting 10-for-15 from the field and 3-for-6 from three. He also had 8 rebounds and 2 steals in the contest.

Victor Wembanyama presents a challenge for any team and defender, as he was active on both sides of the court against a fatigued Wolves squad. He finished with 17 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the floor (1-for-6 from three), 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and a steal.
