Page wants to restore order to Brooklyn Park City Council

Of the three Brooklyn Park City Council seats open this election cycle, the race for the Central District proved the most competitive. Shelle Page, a mortgage lender and 25-year Brooklyn Park resident, won the seat by just a few hundred votes.

“It was neck and neck,” Page said. “When the results came in, I just kept asking, is this real?”

Page narrowly beat out Teshite Wako for the Central District seat. Wako, a 20-year Brooklyn Park resident and CEO of Maati Accounting, received about 48% of the vote compared to Page’s 51%.

“While the outcome is not what we hoped for, we feel proud of our campaign, priorities and love for our City,” Wako said in a Nov. 8 Facebook post. “I am not only optimistic, but hopeful of the future. The fight for unity in diversity, inclusion, and equity in the city government continues.”

In January, Page will take over a city council seat currently held by Boyd Morson. Redistricting in 2022 required Morson to seek reelection in the East District, a race he lost by roughly 2,500 votes.
