The father of a toddler who fatally shot a man with an unsecured firearm in Booklyn Park in 2022 has been sentenced to prison.
A judge last week sentenced Marlon J. White, 23, to 45 months in prison for second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of 20-year-old Khalib Blunt .
According to criminal charges, White’s then-two-year-old son shot Blunt, a friend of White, on Sept. 28, 2022 inside a home on the 7800 block of Tessman Drive North in Brooklyn Park on Sept. 28, 2022.
White initially denied knowing where the gun was, but later said he’d placed the weapon in his car after the shooting.
According to the complaint, White admitted he’d hid his gun under the couch while at the home because he didn’t want the victim’s younger brother to see it.
White left the home at one point and returned with his two-year-old son.
White told officers that while he was on the phone with another friend who was on his way over to the house, he heard a loud bang, which he believed to be a gunshot, and looked over and saw the victim holding his side and groaning.
