The woman allegedly behind the wheel of a car that killed two Minneapolis women on Monday morning has been charged with two counts criminal vehicular homicide.
Teniki Steward, 38, is also charged with criminal vehicular operation over the crash at the intersection of Emerson Avenue North and 26th Avenue North, which left friends Esther Jean Fulks, 53, and Rose Elaine Reece, 57, dead.
According to the criminal complaint, shortly before the collision Steward was driving “at a high rate of speed” and nearly caused a crash when she ran a red light at Emerson Avenue North and Broadway Avenue North.
Steward continued northbound on Emerson Avenue North at high speeds. She then proceeded to run a red light at the intersection with 26th Avenue North, slamming into the eastbound Ford Explorer containing Fulks and Reece, who had the right of way.
The Explorer was sent crashing into a bus shelter, injuring a 17-year-old boy waiting for a bus to school. Fulks and Reece suffered fatal injuries in the collision, while Steward and a passenger in her car suffered injuries that at the time were described as life-threatening.
