Charge: Man stabbed at Savage impound lot said he asked for a receipt

A man hospitalized after being stabbed at a Savage impound lot Friday told police the altercation with a tow truck driver began after he asked for a receipt, according to a new criminal charge.

Prosecutors in Scott County charged Terrance Darnelle Kirkland, 29, of Rosemount, on Monday with one count of 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with the incident, which happened at the towing company’s fenced-in property on Boone Avenue.

According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to a stabbing at the business and found a man bleeding profusely from a wound on his thigh.

Before being taken by ambulance to the hospital, the man indicated to police he’d been stabbed by the tow truck driver who appeared to be filming the scene, the charge states.

Kirkland told police he’d towed the man’s vehicle from Minneapolis and the man paid the fee in cash and was free to take his car.

According to Kirkland’s statement to police, he heard his tow truck door open and saw the victim reaching inside, which made him believe the man was trying to steal the money back.
