Man critically injured in stabbing on Nicollet Mall, suspect arrested

A stabbing in downtown Minneapolis late Monday left one man critically wounded, according to police.

The Minneapolis Police Department said officers have arrested a 58-year-old man in connection with the incident, which happened just before midnight near a bus shelter on the Nicollet Mall.

According to police, the stabbing stemmed from a fight that broke out in the street near Nicollet Avenue and South 5th Street.

Officers from MPD and Metro Transit Police responded to the scene, where they located a man in his 30s with potentially life-threatening stab wounds.

The man was provided aid and rushed to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital.

Police said officers tracked the suspect’s movements on camera until he was found and arrested near Colfax Avenue South and Lake Street at around 2:21 a.m.

The suspect was taken to Hennepin Health Hospital for evaluation of an injury he had received before being arrested and was later booked into the Hennepin County Jail.
