Charges have been filed against a man who police say stabbed another to death outside a downtown Minneapolis bus shelter last week.
It happened late Monday night, December 23, on Nicollet Ave and South 5th St., where Minneapolis police and Metro Transit police found the victim “on the ground and bleeding from potentially life-threatening stab wounds,” a news release says.
The victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to Hennepin Healthcare for treatment, while the suspect — identified as Joseph Davis, 58 — was soon located and arrested with the help of surveillance cameras.
Davis was released from jail pending charges on December 26; however, the following day, police were informed that the victim had been pronounced dead at the hospital.
The next day, Davis was formally charged with first-degree assault and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was taken into custody later that same day. Police say updated charges will be submitted to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
“Preliminary information indicates that an altercation in the street near a bus stop escalated to a stabbing,” the news release says.
