Italian Eatery in south Minneapolis to reopen under new ownership

South Minneapolis’ Italian Eatery will reopen next month, with a trio of Twin Cities chef-owners at the helm.

The re-imagined restaurant, to be called ie By Travail , was announced Thursday by Travail Collective.

The restaurant group, which operates Robbinsdale’s acclaimed Travail Kitchen and Amusements, Nouvelle Kitchen & Brewing, Pig Ate My Pizza, Dream Creamery, Graze Food Hall and Stargazer, is led by James Beard Award semi-finalists Mike Brown, Bob Gerken, and James Winberg.

“As passionate chefs, foodies, and enthusiastic members of this vibrant community, we couldn’t be more excited to carry on the legacy of the beloved Italian Eatery,” Brown shared in a press release. “From the moment we stepped through the doors, we fell in love with the restaurant’s warmth and the neighborhood that made Italian Eatery a local favorite.”

Eric and Vanessa Carrara, who founded Italian Eatery nearly a decade ago, closed the restaurant and its adjoining Sicilian street food spot, un dito, in May.
