A Brooklyn Park man has been sentenced to more than 25 years in prison for a fatal shooting at a family gathering last fall.
Lue Chang, 32, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder late last year after being charged with shooting and killing 34-year-old Nichanon Kittikroekphon of Coon Rapids.
According to police records, many children were present at the time of the shooting – including a toddler standing within arm’s reach of the victim.

Police found Kittikroekphon with multiple gunshot wounds Sept. 21 at a home near Crest View Elementary in Brooklyn Park.
Per a criminal complaint, approximately 30 people were at the residence for a family gathering when the shooting occurred. Witnesses told police the family was hosting a “celebration of the birth of some children in the family.”
The Brooklyn Park Police Department responded to the scene around 6:30 p.m. to find Kittikroekphon with serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to North Memorial Health Hospital where he died later that night.
