The Minneapolis Fire Department class of 2025 are now ready to begin their careers.
Wearing dress, white shirts and black ties, 21 cadets marched to the stage at Northeast Minneapolis’ Ukrainian Event Center to receive their silver Minneapolis Fire Department badges.
“That badge is worn over your left breast, which also contains your heart,” says Minneapolis Fire Department Chief Brian Tyner. “It’s worn over your heart because your heart contains the courage and the empathy that in many ways is going to define the rest of your career. And what is really going to drive your success in this career.”
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey told the graduates that they are joining the best firefighting force in the country, and that there is great honor in being part of the city’s fire department.
“Your bravery, your courage, and all the work that you did to get to this moment is honored,” said the mayor. “Know that we have your back. Also know that the expectations are high.”
The MFD class of 2025 included five members whose badges were pinned by family members who were also firefighters.
