A man has been sentenced to six-and-a-half year in prison for the hit-and-run death of a classic car owner in Minneapolis in 2023.
Presley Aaron Peltier, 28, was sentenced in Hennepin County Court on Monday after he was convicted of criminal vehicular homicide in the death of Andrew Hyde on July 18, 2023, and the injury of an officer whom he dragged during an attempted arrest on Aug. 26, 2023.
Hyde, 55, was driving his beloved 1964 Chevy Impala when he was struck by a stolen Hyundai SUV at Washington and North 22nd Avenues. Police believe Peltier was behind the wheel of the Hyundai, which fled the scene.
A month-and-a-half later, a Minneapolis police officer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle with a driver slumped over, who police allegedly later learned was Peltier.
After the officer informed Peltier he was under arrest, Peltier began to accelerating away with the officer partially trapped in the driver’s side door. He then drove the vehicle into a support pillar of a nearby structure, with the officer able to then roll away.
