3 charged in St. Paul kidnapping linked to Mexican cartel

Three people have been charged in connection to a kidnapping earlier this week on St. Paul’s East Side that prosecutors say is linked to a drug cartel in Mexico.

Richar Sanchez Mujica, 30, and Kendra Sue Johnson, 39, have each been charged with two counts of kidnapping, while Erling Soren Holdahl, 48, is charged with two counts of kidnapping, one count of 1st-degree drug possession and one count of illegal firearm possession, according to Ramsey County court records.

All three were arrested on Tuesday following a standoff in St. Paul on Tuesday after an informant called police telling them a victim was being held against his will, and was set to be tortured and killed.

According to the criminal complaint, authorities were notified with information in December that connected Mujica to drug trafficking. Police were able to ping his phone in the area of the 700 block of Payne Avenue between 7:45 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday…
