Bird Flu Is Spreading
Some states, like Michigan, are warning to pull the bird feeders to help stop the spread of this year’s deadly bird flu. The bird feeders attract birds, and they mingle with other birds they normally wouldn’t. The virus can spread.
In Minnesota, officials haven’t gone as far as asking the public to remove bird feeders, but they suggest that you regularly clean them. They also urge you to frequently clean bird baths as well.
Bird Feeders Attract Bears In Spring
They do, however, warn bird lovers to remove their bird feeders for a period in the springtime due to bears coming out of hibernation. They’ve woken up from their long winter slumber and are starving, and bird feeders are an easy target. The bears likely won’t stop there, and can become a nuisance on your property.
