AG Keith Ellison wades into the $1 billion healthcare merger involving the University of Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Attorney General Keith Ellison says his office is helping get a billion dollar merger between the University of Minnesota, Essentia Health, and Fairview Health Services back on track.

Fairview said in February it was not interested in the deal. Fairview currently owns health care facilities on the U of M campus, including the teaching hospital for the university’s medical school. The U of M and Essentia had invited Fairview to be part of a $1 billion effort to build an “all-Minnesota health system solution.”

Now, at the request of Attorney General Ellison, the parties have agreed to engage in renewed discussions convened by a strategic facilitator to chart a path forward…
