Minneapolis sees significant drop in shootings and gun violence on the city’s north side

Minneapolis city leaders announcing a significant drop in violent crime on the city’s north side.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Police Chief Brian O’Hara will discuss details later Thursday, but are initially saying the number of shooting victims in North Minneapolis decreased by 20% in 2024, and so far is down 30% in 2025.

“The progress we’ve seen in North Minneapolis is the result of our commitment to proactive policing and strong partnerships, both with the community and with local, state, and federal agencies,” said Mayor Frey. “We’ve made significant strides in reducing gun violence, but we’re not there yet. Our efforts will continue until every resident of Minneapolis feels safe in their community.”…
