Minnesota Woman Ordered to Prison For Death of Pregnant Woman

Coon Rapids, MN ( KROC-AM News ) – A 21-year-old Minnesota woman is headed to prison for driving drunk and claiming the life of a pregnant woman last summer.

According to the criminal complaint filed against Makayla April Sue Richardson in Anoka County Court, a preliminary breath test measured her blood-alcohol-concentration at .18 following the crash that killed 26-year-old Melinda Thao of Coon Rapids . Her unborn child later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The court document says Richardson, who is from Mounds View , was intoxicated and pulling a trailer with a pickup when she drove through a red light at an intersection in Coon Rapids last August. Her pickup ended up smashing into Thao’s SUV as the victim was making a left turn on a green arrow…
