Man sentenced to more than a decade for swindling homeowners

HENNEPIN COUNTY, Minn. — A man who swindled almost $850,000 from homeowners has been sentenced to 150 months in prison.

Richard P. Wooton, 55, plead guilty in February to one count of theft by swindle in two sperate cases, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said.

The charges stem from when Wooton worked on behalf of Crossroads Remodeling in Hennepin, Wright and Sherburne counties without proper licensure in 2016, according to the criminal complaint. He allegedly told victims to pay most of the contract up front before any work had been completed.
