Tracking strong winds & wintry mix chances Monday morning!

OVERNIGHT – MONDAY: Sunday started out on a great note, with highs in the 50s and 60s and a mix of Sun and clouds. However, scattered rain showers rolled into eastern ND early evening, lasting into the overnight hours. Come Monday morning, strong northwesterly gusts above 30 mph will force morning lows into the 30s. As wraparound moisture will move into the northern areas around the same time, this means we’ll see a wintry mix in some areas north of Highway 2. This means you’ll want to plan for some lower-than-normal visibility and a few slick spots on the roads if you’re in northwest MN. The chance of mix continues until midday, when temperatures climb into the upper-30s to mid-40s, turning the precipitation into rain showers. Thereafter, those showers will continue until around 6 PM, when they move out of our region, leaving clearing skies in the process. By that time, total precipitation amounts for Monday will be around 0.25″ at most, with most areas seeing less.

We’re also keeping an eye on the strong winds. Northwesterly gusts above 30 mph will last throughout the morning and afternoon hours, even getting up to 40 mph in some spots. This could affect your commute by making driving difficult and even by causing blowing dust in some spots, so stick with Valley News Live for updates. Thankfully, the winds should die down after 7 PM.

Besides the precipitation and winds, Monday will start the workweek on a chilly, gray note, with highs in the 40s and mostly cloudy skies.
