Old Southern BBQ Smokehouse is opening a fifth location

Old Southern BBQ Smokehouse is adding a fifth location to its portfolio of barbecue hubs.

The locally owned chain will open a downtown Excelsior outpost at some point in June. The new restaurant at 291 Water St. sits between Excelsior Brewery and Olive’s Pizza, serving up meats that will be smoked fresh twice each day.

The restaurants were founded by James Anderson, a third-generation pitmaster who was inspired to continue the family tradition started by his late grandfather, Jimmie. His father is Dave Anderson, the restaurateur behind Famous Dave’s.

“My grandfather not only inspired my love for Southern food and cooking but also taught me the importance of quality in every step of the cooking process — from the ingredients to the meats and sauces to the presentation,” Anderson says in a statement…
