Minneapolis witnessed a concise display of enforcement collaboration Saturday night when five juveniles, involved in a carjacking incident, were apprehended in a matter of minutes. The Minneapolis Police Department took to social media to outline the events that unfolded on the 4800 block of Columbus Ave. Gunfire broke the night’s stillness as a woman’s vehicle was seized by the young perpetrators, prompting an immediate law enforcement response.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department’s Facebook post, the car was spotted less than 15 minutes later, racing through the vicinity of 34th Ave N and Logan Ave N by the 4th Precinct officers. Despite the suspect’s refusal to pull over, a chase ensued. In hot pursuit, the stolen vehicle was tracked down, and the suspects eventually abandoned it near the 4000 block of Bryant Ave N, taking their chances on foot.
The chase didn’t end with abandoned steel and whirring engines. Officers were quick to establish a perimeter, and with the eyes in the sky provided by the Minnesota State Patrol Flight helicopter and grounded assistance from K9 units, the search tightened. Residents, alert and vigilant, played their part too, calling in with reports of suspicious activities in their backyards.
