MINNEAPOLIS — A man will serve a 30-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to beating a vulnerable woman to death and leaving her body outside a Minneapolis church.
Along with the fatal beating, 39-year-old Byron Vinicio Vargas Bautista pleaded guilty to first-degree assault after punching and kicking another woman during a dispute, causing bleeding on her brain.
Vargas Bautista was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to both second-degree murder and assault back on April 11. He agreed to an upward sentencing departure and received a 257-month sentence for the second-degree murder count, a 77-month increase over the presumptive sentence.
