Coon Rapids Police Involved in Fatal Shooting Following Domestic Disturbance

A domestic disturbance in Coon Rapids escalated to a fatal officer-involved shooting, as confirmed by the local police department. The incident unfolded at a residence on the 300 block of 111th Avenue shortly after noon when a female reported being cut with a knife by an adult male suspect. She, along with another unharmed male, was able to exit the home as police arrived and de-escalated the situation. The woman was treated at a hospital for her injuries following the distressing episode. The Coon Rapids Police Department stated the occurrence.

After making contact with the knife-wielding suspect from outside the home, police instructed him to disarm and exit the residence. As the officers heard the screams of the woman inside, they left the building with the second male, the suspect defied orders and retreated further inside. The confrontation reached a critical point when the man, still armed, was struck by a less lethal round after refusing to drop the knife. Later, when the suspect confronted the responding officers with the weapon, he was shot with a firearm and subsequently tased as he tried to get up.

Despite the immediate medical attention provided by the police and EMTs on the scene, the suspect succumbed to his injuries at Mercy Hospital. The department revealed that body cameras recorded the entire incident, ensuring that the interactions and actions taken by officers were documented.
