MINNEAPOLIS — Several thousand Minnesotans will spend this long holiday weekend placing American flags at 195,000 headstones at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
It’s become such a tradition for so many people that volunteer shifts have become one of the toughest tickets in the Twin Cities in recent years.
“This year they filled up within like 37 minutes,” said Joanne Malmstedt, founder and president of the nonprofit. “It’s very validating that this is what we needed to do, this needed to happen.”…
