ST PAUL, Minn. — Students at Minnesota’s oldest high school are giving their mascot a makeover — one that reflects the diversity and values of the student body today.
St. Paul Central High School has long been represented by the “Minute Man,” a symbol tied to Revolutionary War soldiers known for being ready at a minute’s notice. But in a move led by students, the school is reimagining that symbol into a modern, inclusive version named “Francis.”
“They came to me with this re-imagined idea of the Minute Man,” said principal Cherise Ayers. “Minute Men is plural, so there’s room for everyone.”…
