MINNEAPOLIS — A massive methamphetamine bust in the Twin Cities is highlighting a disturbing trend in Minnesota’s drug landscape — a resurgence of meth use fueled by powerful trafficking networks.
According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, more than 900 pounds of meth were seized last week through a joint investigation involving local and federal law enforcement. The drugs are estimated to have a street value between $22 million and $25 million.
“This doesn’t surprise me,” said David Thomas, a Florida Gulf Coast University professor and retired narcotics officer. “What that tells me is the Mexican cartels — that’s where most of this is coming from. They can make it cheap, and they can ship it, especially in that amount.”…
