According to a post made by the Bloomington Police Department, MN, they explicitly state they “do not enforce federal immigration law.” This distancing from federal immigration responsibilities underscores a commitment to local policing over federal jurisdiction, a line some communities have found increasingly blurred. They cite Title 8 of the U.S. Code, which does not grant local law enforcement the authority for such enforcement, and that this responsibility solely lies with federal agencies like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
