While a family mourns the sudden death of an 11-year-old boy, police in Minneapolis, need help finding his killer. The child, identified by family in a GoFundMe as Amir Atkins, was shot and killed on June 23, 2025, around 2 p.m. Amir was at Folwell Park when gunfire broke out. Tragically, Amir suffered a fatal gunshot wound, leaving behind a devastated family.
According to a press release from the Minneapolis Police Department, witnesses reported seeing multiple vehicles in the area at the time of the shooting. Police said the man took Amir and another male into his car and tried to get to a hospital. He flagged down police and they attempted life-saving measures. EMS arrived a short time later, but sadly, Amir succumbed to his injuries.
“I cannot emphasize enough how terrible it is to have an 11-year-old boy shot and killed in the middle of the day,” Chief Brian O’Hara shared in the press release. “We need anyone with information to come forward so we can bring some sense of justice to this child’s family. We are following every lead, but we need the public’s help to solve this.”
