Movies to see this week: ‘Grumpy Old Men,’ ‘Enter the Dragon,’ ‘All About Eve’

Classics, a movie shot in Minnesota, Pride screenings, and a good dose of horror are part of the repertory lineup around the Twin Cities this week.

Here’s a taste of what you can see this week.

Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)

The Parkway’s Pride series, curated by Queenie von Curves, wraps with the cult classic The Adventures of Priscilla, featuring Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp. The trio stars as two drag queens and a transgender woman who travel the Australian Outback en route to a casino, where they’ll perform a long run. But the trip there — aboard their bus, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, is where the episodic movie takes place as they meet other travelers, are subjected to abuse, and find some friends.

It’s almost odd to call it a cult classic when it won Un Certain Regard at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival and got an Oscar for Best Costume Design. The movie is preceded by a burlesque and drag show hosted by Von Curves. 4814 Chicago Ave., Minneapolis ($11.27/$12)

Grumpy Old Men (1993)

The penultimate movie in the Heights Theater’s “When Life Gives You Lemmon” series, highlighting movies with Jack Lemmon, Grumpy Old Men isn’t just the best of the late-career collaborations between Lemmon and Walter Matthau. It also gives Minnesotans that “one of us” feeling.
