Thousands of Duluth area nurses announce plans to strike

The protracted battle between unionized nurses and hospitals in the Twin Cities and Duluth appears to be headed for a work stoppage. Duluth-area workers with the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) have announced plans for a strike on June 27.

Acute care nurses at Essentia Health’s St. Mary’s Duluth Hospital, Miller-Dwan Hospital, and Aspirus Health St. Luke’s Hospital plan to begin an unfair labor practices (ULP) strike on Tuesday, July 8, after delivering a 10-day notice to hospitals on Friday.

Nurses and other healthcare workers at Essentia Health’s 1st Street, 2nd Street, 3rd Street, and Superior Clinics, as well as staff members at Miller Hill Ambulatory Surgery Center and Solvay Hospice House will also begin a strike on Tuesday, according to an MNA announcement.
