The Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) teamed up with partner agencies in a successful effort to recover a stolen vehicle and apprehend two suspects, as detailed in a recent social media post from the MPD. The operation, dubbed “Operation Safe Summer”, showcased both coordination and restraint in adhering to MPD policies.
Officers were initially tipped off to the potential theft when they spotted a car near the intersection of 23rd Avenue South and Seabury Avenue sporting mismatched license plates, often a telltale sign of stolen property. The driver attempted to evade the police when they tried to pull him over; however, MPD officers did not engage in a pursuit in compliance with department protocols. Shortly thereafter, the car was located and stopped by Hennepin County Deputies, resulting in the suspects attempting to flee on foot.
Quick collaboration among law enforcement enabled them to locate and arrest both the driver and the passenger, with one of the suspects also found in possession of suspected narcotics.
