Minneapolis to launch speed cameras at 5 sites; drivers face warnings, fines

A traffic safety camera pilot will focus on five locations around Minneapolis to start in September.

The initial locations of these speed enforcement cameras will be announced by July 15. As many as 42 of 51 proposed camera locations could become active throughout the program’s four-year duration.

The pilot was proposed through Minneapolis’ 2023-2025 Vision Zero Action Plan and approved by Minnesota lawmakers in 2024. The pilot is slated to run through July 2029 and will involve red light cameras as well.

Vision Zero’s program coordinator, Ethan Fawley, told KARE 11 that city staff have collected feedback from about 1,200 people throughout a months-long community engagement period.
